Clark County Center for Community Health

The Company

The Clark County Center for Community Health (CCCCH) is a $38 million facility that provides convenient access to enhanced social and health services for regional veterans and other community members. Located in Vancouver, Washington, CCCCH is equipped to evaluate individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, while directing them to appropriate long-term care.

The Challenge

Located on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs campus, CCCCH houses a range of service organizations, including the American Legion (Department of Washington Service Division), Clark County Public Health Department, and Clark County Veteran’s Assistance Program, as well as more than 100 inpatient beds for mental health and substance abuse care. With a unique combination of offerings under one roof, CCCCH wanted to create a welcoming and safe environment that would benefit all of its constituents – patients, employees, visitors and young children.

It was critical for the finished space to convey a calming first impression, as many of the individuals visiting the center are anxious about seeking help. Therefore, CCCCH wanted furnishings, fabrics and colors that were comfortable and soothing. In addition, the interior of the facility contained structural support beams and protruding window ledges, which created a potential design challenge, as select areas required specialized furniture.

CCCCH wanted to partner with a commercial interior provider who could transform its 176,000 square feet of space with appropriate furnishings for its administrative offices, waiting areas, exam rooms, conference rooms, break rooms and more. With a grand opening ceremony on the horizon, CCCCH was under a tight timeframe to finalize the space and needed a vendor who could manage the project from start to finish while meeting the organization’s aesthetic, budget, safety and installation requirements.

The Solution

CCCCH was created on the belief that great things can be achieved by combining organizations committed to achieving the same goal. CCCCH ultimately partnered with Business Interiors by Staples as the two entities could work in tandem to quickly and cost effectively design a productive and nurturing environment.

After assessing CCCCH’s design needs, the Business Interiors by Staples team evaluated furnishings that would closely coordinate with the existing finishes on doors and window trims. CCCCH also wanted easy access to power and IT cables, which was factored into the design and space planning.

The Business Interiors by Staples team acted as the single, accountable point of contact for project management, coordinating with furniture manufacturers to ensure that all items met CCCCH’s safety and usage specifications. For example, Gunlocke – a leading furniture manufacturer and long-term Staples partner – created customized waiting room chairs that were childproofed with specialized brackets.

The Results

Business Interiors by Staples left no detail to chance, proactively managing every order, delivery and installation to meet CCCCH’s project timeline. The Staples team turned CCCCH’s vision into reality, resulting in a professional, functional and pleasing office environment that supports the organization’s mission to provide quality community care.
